Groove Lab

Announcing our first Musical Way Academy Groove Lab: Working Within A Rhythm Section. This program will be run by Jon Dufore and Kyle Tupper.

This program is designed to help musicians build a thorough understanding of the intricate workings within a rhythm section.

Topics covered can include the following:
-Working as a rhythm instrument
-Working within a rhythm section as a more traditional lead instrument
-Listening to others within your instrument group and the ensemble
-How to balance parts within your instrument group (multiple guitars for example)
-When to play the same thing, when to play something different
-Knowing when to lead and when to follow
-Dynamics
-Changing tunes to make them your own
-Helping to build a mood for the soloist
-Functioning during a drum solo
-Odd meter grooves
-Anything else you are interested in!

As a group, we will analyze a few recordings to see how the artist approached the groove, then see if we can replicate their groove and also build our own groove together as an ensemble. We will look in depth at our own choices to see how they affect the entire ensemble and how we can communicate our ideas within the group to put our own twist on the song.
